#MedalMonday . Really pleased to have taken part in the 10th anniversary of the Yorkshire Marathon yesterday. . I entered this race mainly due to its location. Having visited York many times before I just couldn’t miss the opportunity that had arisen. York is such a beautiful location so why wouldn’t I go? It just meant I’d have to run a few miles whilst there 😃😳 . My last stand alone marathon was 9 years ago with the most recent being part of the Ironman in Barcelona, 2019. . Unfortunately I’ve struggled all year with calf injuries and more recently some knee pain. So training for this marathon was pretty much none existent. . The marathon started off at the University and looped through York passing the York Minster Cathedral, the bells were ringing on approach. The atmosphere was breathtaking. . I found myself running at a comfortable pace behind the 3 hour pacer until around mile 12. I think the lack of training started to show. My pace then dropped gradually over the next 8 miles. . Then the real pain kicked in! Miles 21 - 23 just hurt. My hips were seizing, my knees and my toes just ached and the battle with my mind was equally painful. . With only three miles to go I looked for inspiration. I knew I could finish but wasn’t sure how long that would take. Then along came the 3:30 pacer. I dug deep and dropped on the back of the pack. Although still in lots of pain I could see I wasn’t on my own. We pushed as a group all the way to the finish line #grateful. . Overall it was an amazing experience, great location, great event and another medal to the collection. . Tomorrow morning I take on yet another endurance challenge. This time the Yorkshire Marathon. . Training has been very limited due to ongoing calf injury. #motivationalmonday - Dyfi Aquathlon 26KM . Taking a look back to my race in Aberdovey, Wales only a few weekends ago and wishing I could do it all again…yes I really did just say that 😂 . This has to be one of the hardest aquathlon transitions I’ve ever had. Having just swam for a little over 2hrs, covering 13km in total I found the water had wrinkled my toes and fingers to the point they were so numb I just couldn’t get my wetsuit off and my trainers on. Thank goodness for @greeperlaces to save the extra struggle. Even after a 13km swim there was still a smile 🤪 on my face, or was it a sign of relief? . Dyfi Aquathlon 26km . Then came an extremely slippery grass bank to conquer. Captured with another great action shot from @paul.fowles. However just after this I had a great tumble back into the water 🙃 . The swim was just epic. The scenery was beautiful. Salty water initially, around 18c changing to fresh water, dropping to approx 15c. Very shallow in places but this made it more interesting and definitely more challenging. . The swim took me a little over 2 hours to complete and first out of the water. That’s pretty fast. I will admit, it was tide assisted. . I’ve not swam that far in any session since my days back @cob_swim many, many years ago! . I definitely recommend this event. #MedalMonday - Bronze medalist at the European Aquathlon Championships. . European bronze medalist (45-49) at the Aquathlon Championships, Menen, Belgium ☺️ . I was lucky enough to have secured a pre qualification from my last GB race which meant I was able to represent Team GB at the European Aquathlon Championships, held in Menem, Belgium. . I wasn’t sure how the race would unfold. I’ve been struggling with a left calf injury for sometime now. My race plan was pretty simple, use my years of swimming experience to be near the front, look for a quick transition and then run as fast as I can to the finish line 🤣 . And that’s pretty much how it went! . The water temperature was just under the limit for a compulsory non wetsuit swim. The majority of the other athletes did choose to use their wetsuits. I’m not a fan of swimming in a wetsuit, I find it restricts my arm and shoulder movement which results in loss of speed and unnecessary fatigue. Then there’s the hassle of fighting to get out of it after the swim. 😬 I recorded the 4th fastest swim in my age group (2nd fastest non wetsuit) in a time of 15:06 and the fastest T1 split. . Onto the run, felt awful in the first few minutes but quickly settled and kept a good pace going through the first lap. As I entered my second lap I saw Tim Coolican coming out of T1. We worked with each other for the next lap, ever so grateful to Tim for his motivational words as I was starting to struggle with my calf, his comments made me push on through and sprint to the finish. . I recorded the 2nd fastest run time in my age group, completing the 5k in 19:18. . Pretty pleased with the result. 1st in my 45-49 age group and 4th overall. Completing the 3k swim in 44:56 = 4 laps of 750m - 10:22, 11:34, 11:30, 11:30. . Pleased to have finished off my 2022 season this morning with an overall win at the Halesowen Aquathlon. . Another great event hosted by @halesowentri A last minute change of the run route due to icy condition meant the 5k run was mostly off road. However this route was much safer and running through the frosted trees and foliage made it more pleasant on the eye. Definitely a race I’d recommend for next year 👍🏻 . Max spent many years in numerous dogs homes throughout the country whilst in search of his forever home. . Max came to us as a very anxious dog. He was suffering with lots of anxiety. Everything/everybody he saw would most definitely get a loud woof or two as a warning not to get too close to him. . Max has had an amazing twelve months since being with us. He’s no longer on any medication to suppress his anxiety and he’s learnt how to meet new people and have fun with new friends.
